When looking for the best Swiss Army knife, the only place to look is Switzerland, more importantly, Victorinox. They created the original Swiss Army knife, and have been selling them since 1884. You may be familiar with the brand, but how do you choose the right one for you? We reviewed 10 of our favorites to help you! Before we get into that, let’s look at a few features to consider before buying your first (or next) Swiss Army knife.
Functions: Each knife has a unique set of functions to meet your needs, from everyday tools, home improvement tools, and camping tools. Consider how and where you plan to use your knife and know that more functions mean a heavier knife!
Blade Length: Most sets come with a large blade that’s around 2.5” long, which is plenty for taking on small cutting tasks. Smaller models have one that’s around 1.25”, and larger sets will come with both blades to take on various tasks.
Made in Switzerland: All of the models we featured in our Swiss Army knife buying guide were made in Switzerland. If Victorinox doesn’t make it, it’s not truly a Swiss Army knife and may be a cheap, poorly functioning knockoff. So purchase carefully!
Color Options: While we often think of traditional red for Swiss Army knives, they now come in just about every color imaginable! You can also buy them in various prints, or support organizations like the Boy Scouts or the Wounded Warriors Project.
Weight: If you are looking for a good everyday carry (EDC) knife, try to find one that’s lightweight. If you want a knife with more functions, or made for camping activities it will probably be too heavy for your everyday needs.
Size: In addition to weight, consider the size of the knife when purchasing. Smaller knives can easily attach to your keyring or tuck away in your pocket, while a larger knife is better attached to a knapsack with a carabiner.
Now that you know all about what to look for in a Swiss Army knife, let’s get into the reviews! We found 10 models that range from the basic to the all-encompassing.
